We are excited to announce the launch of Echoes of the Okavango, a groundbreaking kayak expedition through Botswana’s Okavango Delta. Taking place in Summer 2025, this two-week, 300-kilometer expedition will highlight the urgent impacts of climate change on one of the world’s most stunning ecosystems and promote its conservation.
Why the Okavango Delta?
Often referred to as the "Heart of Southern Africa," the Okavango Delta is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and one of the last untouched wetlands in the world. Each year, its seasonal flooding transforms up to 15,000 square kilometers into a thriving oasis that supports diverse wildlife, including elephants, lions, and endangered species such as the African wild dog. Despite its importance, this fragile ecosystem faces growing threats from climate change and human activities.
The Echoes of the Okavango Expedition aims to bring these issues to the forefront, using storytelling and science to inspire global conservation efforts. "This journey is about more than exploration," says expedition leader Jay Frain. "It’s about capturing the Delta’s story—its breathtaking landscapes, resilient wildlife, and the communities that depend on it—to galvanize action to protect its future."

The Journey
The team will embark from Sepupa, at the northern tip of the Delta, and paddle through its intricate waterways, concluding in Maun. Along the way, they will navigate iconic sites such as Chief’s Island, engage with local communities, and document the Delta’s ecological and cultural significance. Each day will combine paddling with fieldwork and creative storytelling projects, resulting in a blend of adventure and advocacy.
